Accessibility Statement

We want this educational material to be usable by as many people as possible, on any device and with assistive technology.

Our commitment

We aim to meet the intent of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. Accessibility is treated as part of design and review rather than a later adjustment.

Measures currently in place

  • Semantic HTML structure with one main heading per page and a logical heading order.
  • A skip-to-content link as the first focusable element on every page.
  • Visible focus outlines on all interactive elements, including within the ticker area.
  • Text and interface colours chosen for adequate contrast in both light and dark themes.
  • Descriptive alternative text for every meaningful image, and decorative graphics hidden from assistive technology.
  • Keyboard operability for navigation, disclosure panels, the FAQ and the educational calculator.
  • Responsive typography and layout that remain usable when zoomed or on small screens.
  • Reduced-motion support: animations are suppressed when your system requests reduced motion.
  • Labelled form controls in the calculator, with explanatory helper text linked programmatically.

Theme choice

A light and dark theme toggle is available in the header. Your preference is stored locally in your browser and applied across every page. Both themes are designed to keep text clearly distinguishable from its background.

Known limitations

The moving reference ticker at the top of the page is decorative in nature. Its content is also described in text, and motion is disabled when reduced-motion preferences are set. Complex tables in longer articles may require horizontal scrolling on very narrow screens.

Ongoing work

We test with keyboard-only navigation, browser zoom and screen-reader spot checks as pages are published or revised, and we address issues found during those checks as part of normal editorial review, described in our editorial policy.

Feedback

If you encounter a barrier on this site, we would like to correct it. Reports that identify the page, the assistive technology used and the difficulty encountered are the most actionable. Our about page explains who maintains the site, and the HTML sitemap lists every page in one place for easier navigation.
